Phoenix in Flames

Really good book. I give this book 9 stars for the introdution of Karl Hahn, freakin badass character. I love the locale and the action is fast paced. Good stuff!!

Wow! One of the best books in the series. I have read this book about dozen times in the past two years that I've been reading this series. Quite a few of Fieldhouse's books in the series are over dragged and very long or boring. But Fieldhouse's ingenious idea of putting GSG-9 anti-terrorist badass Karl Hahn into the series, well, was EPIC!!!!! I highly recommend any of the Karl Hahn books, not just this one. Tovarishchi Navsegda!

Well this author for me is a bit hit or miss I guess but this is definately a hit. Firstly the introduction of Karl Hahn continues a tradition in these combined series that occasionally a character is introduced where you instantly like him for whatever reasons, (Oh how I wish that some of them could survive and be actually reintroduced in future titles of series). Next, good plot where the KGB are assisting in a heroin distribution ring with locals throw in, major sub plots which keeps the title racing along at a break neck pace and yep we are reading some good stuff here. McCarter what can you say but some of the stuff that comes out of his mouth in this title is classic stuff very much defining. This is a non stop action title you will be flicking over the page to the next constantly. Let me tell you the price of admission is worth itself just to read the section where Katz is fighting an adversary after his prosthetic arm is lost due to an axe blow in the last few pages of the title. Terrific do yourself a favour and read this one.

In a terrorist raid in France, Phoenix Force uncovers a drug pipeline emanating from Turkey. They correctly figure that Turkish intelligence is compromised, so they use German intelligence while in the country. For this purpose, Karl Hahn is first introduced to the series as their liaison to Turkey. I’ve recently re-read this novel after reading this originally a couple of decades ago. William Fieldhouse’s prose seems especially clunky and embarrassingly overcooked. He uses words like thugs, lowlifes, guy, brutes instead of pronouns. Keeping in mind this was written over twenty years ago, I am not going to be especially critical of the writing style when it comes to the rating. Fieldhouse’s prose is still developing. His plot structure here is basic, but Hahn’s solo chapters and the assault on the castle are the highlights of the novel. “Phoenix in Flames” is the best title of the series, too bad it wasn’t saved for “Tooth And Claw” where it would be more apt.

"Phoenix In Flames" packs plenty of action. There is some little bit of plot which mostly fills in space to get from one shoot-out to the next. The supporting characters are pretty good, including the villains. Phoenix is OK here and they get into plenty of fights, making things go boom and slinging lead like they owned stock in a bullet factory. The only problem I have with the action is the horrible tendancy of Phoenix and their allies to lose their weapons in a firefight and resort to brawling. It would have been a breathtaking addition to the excitement once. Maybe interesting twice. But every damn member of Phoenix loses his firearms at least once. If this trend continues the series might have to be renamed "The Butterfinger Boys". Perhaps they should consider lanyards. 7 stars for action and some cool supporting characters.

This is one of the best in PF series. I really liked the new guy in here, Karl Hahn isn't just a run of the mill good guy with a gun type, he really is a dangerous guy with any kind of object nearby.

This book was great. We are introduced to Karl Hahn. What a guy. Who would of ever guessed what you could do with such an ordinary everyday object. Well Karl does. Trust me it is a good one.

A great, action packed book.

Excellent book that introduces Karl Hahn. Great shoot-outs and a whirlwind pace.
