Hammerhead Reef

Hammerhead reef was an average story. Mack is called into a scenario that was a bit confusing as the author was tying together a religious zealout, his past nemesis (Strakhov), and Rafael Encizo’s relative. It seems the author tried too hard to tie this to the Bolan lore and ended up bringing too many idea together and finishing none of them. With that being said, there are very entertaining parts to the story. I’ll reread this at some point, but it’s far from being placed on my list of favorites.

Very ordinary title here. Not sure what the author was actually doing most of the time as he included numerous plot lines most of which were poor and attempts to try and stitch them all together in the one title. The title reads like a detective story and I was wondering if in fact I was reading action adventure stuff as it is not until page 120 of the title when the Big Guy actually fires a shot maybe some sort of a record? The shark scenes where the boat was scuttled were okay I guess but the assassin sent by Strakhov was poor reading, the Cuban characters introduced were overall dull and uninteresting which can be said for the majority of the title. It plods along to it's finish so slowly, very hard to read. Not recommended reading in this series at all.

This is a very uneven book. Some of the action is pretty good while other bits are below average. The supporting characters are uninteresting with maybe one exception who only lasts a couple chapters. Much of this book is given over to a plodding narrative as Bolan unravels the mystery. The mystery isn't worth unravelling and the solution is based on wild assumptions of the only possible explanation of this or that fact. Too much of the rest of the book is wasted on a subplot about a deadly KGB assassain after Bolan. This assassain is more annoying than deadly and doesn't provide much of interest. For some reason in this book the Executioner goes around introducing himself to all kinds of people as Mack Bolan, seemingly unconcerned about his identity being so widely known. Add to that the strange weaponry used by Bolan in this one and it's almost like an entirely different character is filling in while Mack is on vacation. 4 stars for this unsatisfying yarn.

Zzzzzzzz Zzzzzzzzz Is it time to wake up ma? God this was one dreadfully boring Mack novel. I hate reading a novel and keep looking up at the page number to see how far I had to go before the ending. 1) Rafe tells his uncle about Mack? Isn't Stony Man suppose to be a secret? Isn't Mack and what Rafe do suppose to be secret? Isn't telling an uncle who is involved with the anti-Castro movement dangerous? Lets have a terrorist kidnap the uncle if he suspects something is up with his nephew and boom secrets are told. 2) The beginning was interesting with Mack going after those two drug dealers. That was it though. 3) Lets see someone you know goes through a lot of trouble tracking you down and says their life is in danger. So what do you do? Go to a funeral in Europe or try to save a life? Lets see. Hmmmm. Mack's character is one that would have cancelled going to the funeral since their was nothing he could do for the duchess and help the poor slob which is something he could do something about. So out of character for Mack. 4) The shark scene wasn't bad but why follow that up with your next opponent be eaten by a leopard? Too much animal eating in one book. One scene fine two scenes pushing the limits. 5) Wow going in and out of Cuba is so easy. 6) For villians you had a potentially interesting villian with the preacher instead focus on a cuban drug dealer. A drug dealer that was kind of ordinary. Such a waste. A really poor and very boring novel. Shark scene was good and the first chapter. Thats it.

This is kind of an oddball novel, with a plot that seemed to jump around and a lot characters show up in here, some of which weren't really neccesary, I thought. A decent book, but not real great, I liked the ending, it was a good finish to the story.

This story was thin, plotless and pointless. Bolan runs around trying to break a drug smuggling ring that hardly seems worth his effort. The story is so thin that the author felt the need to add a Soviet assassin who pursues Bolan for half the novel until the bumbling fool is fed to jaguars in a zoo. The extra characters are lifeless, the bad guys serve only as target practice, and the shallow good guys as cannon fodder. In addition to all this, everybody and his dog seems to know Mack Bolan on sight, and to add insult to injury, Bolan recruits Rafael Enzico's cousin into the fight, the cousin knows all about Bolan because Enzico told him. Bolan is also using new guns, but we are not told why, or what happened to the automag. Terrible story, terrible characterization. I left me very disappointed.

Very good. I really liked the underwater battle Mack has in it.

This one was one of the best entries in the early lone wolf days. It had more of a mystery plot to it than most of the others do.

NICE ENDING ON THIS ONE. DONE SWIFTLY WITH A GOOD SENSE OF JUSTICE.THIS ONE CAN BE CONSIDERED ONE OF MY FAVORITES.
