TRIP WIRE When a routine missing persons case turns into a blood battle with the Russian Mafia, San Diego private investigator Johnny Bolan Gray puts in a call to help to big brother. Going on the offensive, Mack Bolan uncovers a conspiracy that puts the CIA in bed with the head of the Russian syndicate, but Stony Man has warned him to stand down. Going this one with Johnny, the Executioner mounts a strike against Tolya Valerik that sweeps from Los Angeles to New York, crushing his stateside operations. But the brothers' scorched-earth campaign hasn't penetrated all levels of the conspiracy - yet.

Okay first title of the trilogy and there is a conspiracy. Well somethings going on with Hal as he has frozen Mack out and he can receive no support or information from Stony Man farm on his current mission? Why would Hal do this to Mack after all that they have been through? Johnnie is back and fighting with Mack and I must admit I like his character being reintroduced on occasions. The usual Mike Newton story but what is going on with Hal ?? You just have to read the next two titles of course............

Decent start to the Bolan Brothers trilogy. Had a standard Newton-like plot, with the Bolan's hitting and gitting while trying to unravel a conspiracy. This one could have set the stage for what we've all been wanting---a rogue Bolan. Brognola's secretive nature was totally out of the norm for him. And I have a beef with them saying Johnny was an Ex-Ranger. From Resurrection Day, he was in the Navy. I'm almost positive! And he used to be a lawyer, right. Some of those things prohibited this one from being much better.

Newton...'nuff said. Great as usual, although lacking in some places (like the dialogue in areas), but it was fun to have Johnny back. I feel that maybe Newton was feeling forced to make this into a trilogy, because this starts out great, but...well, please read my reviews of the other 2 books in the trilogy.

I really enjoyed this book! It was great seing Johnny again, and the action scenes were quite good. I'm a fan of much of MIke Newton's work I've read so far, but this is even better than usual. Sure, some of the dialogue was corny...but that's a bit par for the course. I'm really getting high hopes for this trilogy based on this first book...and since so far my favorite trilogy was also written by Newton, I hold out hope that I won't be disappointed. Great characterization, great intrigue, and plenty of action make this bok a must-read for any Blan fan.

Superb book! Brothers fighting back to back. References to the bad old days. Brognola, Holy Cows! Mike Newton is back in top form, with a story that is intelligent and full of intrigue. The last sentence in Shattered Trust says it all.
