The Cold War drops to a deadly chill when the murder of two scientists contaminated with radiation points to illegal nuclear testing in Antarctica. With the superpowers on crisis alert, the President calls on Phoenix Force, the finest paramilitary commando unit in the world. Once in the field, the Force discovers a much more sinister operation. There's a third party, neither Russian nor American, selling his growing arsenal of nuclear weapons to anyone with the cash. As the situation spirals toward international tragedy, the Force descends on Erik Hellson's New Zealand operation and goes up against a private army of cutthroat mercs - and the icy trail explodes into a blazing firefight.

I bought this book when it was first published. I never got around to reading it until now. I thought this was a pretty good book. Though not on par with Super Phoenix #1 and #2, this book is still passable. 7 Stars.

Here we go again another nuke of the month story with a couple of side elements which MAKES IT SO MUCH DIFFERENT than previous titles written by this author. Yeah right. Nothing new here AT ALL!! The same writing which if you have read his previous stuff is copied and pasted here. With the CONTINUAL!!!!! knocking out of the hands of the butterfingered Force their weapons we enter excellent hand to hand combat scenes which well is great as usual. It's good yep but how many times can it be good before you start to think to yourself "Oh no not again?". How these guys are still alive with this continual dialogue from this author belies belief but none the less they are all still with us at this stage of the combined series. Unfortunately we can't say the same for Karl Hahn though can we? Forget that I am really getting the feeling here that parts of this title were written by other people. The title seems disjointed to me and it annoy's me when I have to stop reading to think HUH who/what/where was that? This author has done better stuff than this. As usual action scenes are good or better but hmm I was disappointed by this and could not recommend this to you in any way.

These super PF novels are very good, and Cold Dead is the third of only four that were ever written. This book takes the force to Antarctica, where they kick ass there, then to New Zealand, where they kick more ass there, and to Australia, and some Islands in the Indonesia area, where they, you guessed it, kick some more ass. The book gets better as it goes along, and it has great one on one fights at the end, including Katz taking on another guy with a hook for an arm also. And Calvin James taking on the last guy. An awesome action filled novel, if you can find these monster sized PF books... GET EM!

Same as the rest of the Phoenix books. Great reading with loads of action.
