Iron Claymore

I give this book 7 stars. I really didn't think that phoenix force needed to be sent on this mission. I thought the bad guys and their scheme was preposterous. The S.A.S could have handled these guys with no problem. I understand that the new president wanted to save one of his political supporters. This book gets a 7 star from me because of Major Simms appearance. I thought the way he went out was like a true warrior.

This title surprised me as after the first couple of chapters and reading the plot I groaned inwardly and thought to myself this is going to be crap. How wrong I was this is quite a fine read with many many parts where you will smile especially with Manning and James at Loch Ness after previous dialogue between them prior to arriving there and what happens after. I also liked how the Simms character developed in this title and agree (HEY Mr. Publishers) can't we have some recurring characters? Do we have to kill off anyone who is half interesting or in fact an excellent character at the end of the title? So some good stuff to read in between the usual excellent action scenes this time. Final assault on the castle is very good reading and reading the brothers drop during the title is also well done especially "the man who would be king". Truly if you decide to read this keep an open mind when you read the first couple of chapters and how absurd the plot is the title cranks up big time from then on I loved it. Recommended reading.

A kind of sequal to Viper Factor with the return of Simms a really anoying SAS member that had run ins with McCarter prior to his joining PF. They don't really like each other. Simms is kind of brutal. I liked how Simms character had more depth and how he really did care about his job he just went about it kind of wrong but when push came to shove he did his duty perfectly. I wish Simms had stayed on instead of being killed off. Villians worst villians in the series. Seriously they were not really all that dangerous. Sure they killed but it wasn't a group PF really needed to take care of SAS easily could have handled it. Lets face it these Scots really didn't think through on what they were doing. McGreggor was really the only reason why they were sent into Scotland in the first place - he was the new presidents crony. I loved the scene between Hal and the new president. Sadly the book didn't end with this ie "president says 'thank you'" or better yet a fnal scene between Hal and the president. I loved his confusion over Mack being alive. I also liked how Hal really didn't care what the president thought of his being blunt. The line about Hal being to busy to vote was brilliant. Action scenes are ok. Since Simms came back I have to compare the storming of the castle with the Viper Effect's storming of the embessy. VE had a better storming in scene. Overall a 6.

I really couldn't get into this novel, not to say it is bad, there are several good moments in here, but overall it didn't seem very gripping or exciting. It seemed that there was some padding in this book, which I usually don't see in a PF novel. And there were too many cop/investigator/SAS type of characters working with the force than should have been neccesary. The action scenes are decent and some humor sprinkled here and there, and the setting is cool, but I thought this book could have been better.

I was surprised by this book. We finally get to see David's raw sense of humor if you can call it that. I recommend this book.

Very impressive book. The final assault on the castle is explosive. Grade: A
