Blockade

Well after #15 and #18 this author has produced another fine effort with yet another wonderful title here. If you like fast paced titles this is your baby here, it really doesn't slow down at all throughout and will certainly keep you entertained with what you will read. The plot as has been mentioned previously is to take out the Queen of England by a splinter terrorist group of the IRA who have been moving heroin to fund their purchase of weapons especially a few MILAN rocket launchers and the big guy is in Ireland at the bequest of both the Irish and British governments to bring his unique talents to assist in locating and taking out the terrorists. The storyline is excellent as he goes about doing his thing and suddenly the terrorist group starts taking some hits and what happens? Well the usual as they have no idea who he is and send people to take him out with predictable results, suddenly the leaders world is starting to crumble around him and it seems no matter what he tries to do he suffers further losses which has been done many times I agree but is very entertaining reading in this title in what happens. Some very good characters introduced here which thankfully was limited to a manageable number to know who was who in this title which was a concern in the last two titles. I really don't want to give anything away regarding what happens in this as it is a very fine read which is certainly recommended for your reading I loved it.

I really liked this novel. Carl Furst usually has a huge cast of characters and sometimes light on the action, but Blockade is quite different. A very action packed story, with a good plot and interesting allies and a reasonable number of villains. This is a fun book to read. Bolan is after a leader of an IRA terrorist faction, who has aquired missile launchers to use against the Queen of Brittain. The scenes dealing with the assassination attempts were done very well, and suspenseful too. I liked Bolan's escapades in the streets of Dublin, which takes up most of the first half of the book. Excellent scenes also on the water with the boats. If you like to see missiles launched and things go boom, than this book has plenty for you. It was cool to see Bolan ride a motorcycle in a number of scenes. The battle at the compound in Africa was another great scene, but this leads to my only gripe with this book. The country Bolan is in is never named. I had no clue where it took place. This kind of thing bothers me, but I'm figuring it was something left out on the editing floor. Anyway, the destruction of the leader of this compound as well as his right hand man was just fantastic. The story moves at a fast pace, and is one of Furst's better novels, so far I have liked his SuperBolans very much.

Bolan crosses the Atlantic to help out the British and legitimate Irish governments take out a IRA splinter group. Before long, mayhem ensues. "Blockade" has a more unique plot than most of the novels, but unfortunately it doesn't do anything with it. Bolan is supposed to be tracking down Irish terrorists, but racks up the frequent flyer miles by going to Africa and Boston, all while allegedly trying to save a kidnapped ally. The action writing is good, and the plot continued to move along, but these crazy detours really detracted from an overall good novel. Once again, a SuperBolan suffers from subplots seemingly added to boost the page count. Not well thought out, but still an o.k. read.

This book was great as it was a different mission for Bolan fighting a splinter group from the IRA instead of the usual world dominating terrorist wannabe of the month. The plot was clear but it was only in the end that all the pieces made the final picture of it. I love the Carl Furst books and I wish he would continue to write more!!!!

I was never a fan of Carl Furst, and this book was no exception. Although it was decent, it just didn't have that extra punch that a Fieldhouse book does.
