Fight or Die

This is the second of only two Kasner Executioners, and while nowhere near as good as Shoot Down, still it is a worthy addition to the series. The story is fairly simple, the second half dedicated to Bolan’s helping of a Serbian village in getting weapons and setting up defenses against a warlord intending to take over the town in what he considers his territory. The town gets on the warlord’s radar when Bolan infiltrates his stronghold and makes off with his doctor, which is Bolan’s mission to begin with. Bolan, along with a female ally, who is mostly there as a translator, find a new ally in the town called the Gypsy. This was a great character, overshadowing Bolan’s female sidekick. Some decent scenes in the first half with Bolan’s snatching of the Doctor, later more predictable reading as the town is in siege mode against the warlord’s goons. A quick read, nothing too outstanding, but a solid adventure. Interesting to note, like Death Force before it, this book also features Bolan with several face to face encounters with the main villain throughout the book. The final confrontation was disappointing in my opinion, but overall not a bad book.

hmm not sure this should have been released as an Executioner title. The book is a reasonable read especially if you are more of the war/combat tactics type reader but I found myself wanting at times. In a few previous titles I have wondered what Mack is actually doing here and found the same with this book. Not to say the book is not worth reading but it is not to my type of book.

I don't know if Kasner meant this novel to be a western novel but it sure read like that except in Bosnia with modern weapons AK-47s instead of rifles, mortar instead of cannons. This story is a classic evil land baron with group of thugs wanting to control all the land around him and the village people. A gunslinger comes to town and convince the townsfolk to fight agains the land baron. I really enjoyed this story and thought if you want to read how Mack would deal with the old west this is the novel to read. The doctor was one of the most sniveling idiots I recall in any Mack novels. How the townsfolk didn't string him up I don't know. His actions which were so misguided got townsfulk killed. He did realize what I did. The battle scenes between the villagers and the Serb thugs was good. It was nice seeing Mack as more of a general then a main fighter. He did fight but he also taught the townsfolk how to fight. The gypsy was a fun character although if this was an actual western he would have been an indian - his knowledge of the land and area was something you would read that an indian would have in a western. Only real flaw was how did the russian agent know that she was working with Mack. Not sure if she got the info before the meeting or if she recognized him from pictures. Didn't take away fro the novel though. A must read novel.

Just finished it and LOVED IT! Great story. Really suspenseful. Great read.
