They Came to Kill

This was utter garbage. Written by a 14 year old who has the vague idea of story line but has a long way to go, me thinks. It gets 2 stars simply because Able Team go abroad instead of being hamstrung to the USA but the story was so disjointed and the characters so cardboard it made awful reading. The Powell guy started off ok during his introduction, but after that degenerated into a 'jivin' teenager. The dialogue was incoherent. Able Team acted like prize morons instead of professionals and at one point Gadgets was even laughing as he threw phosphorous grenades at people and watched them burn! What garbage.

Well this title is lacking badly. The author is attempting a multiple title mini series and has introduced so many characters and factions in previous titles that by this one it is really hard to follow who is up who and who is paying the rent. You will read about so many characters from previous titles who have escaped in previous titles if you have read them if not huh lots of luck and think what were they in the title for and you/I will raise our/my eyebrows thinking huh did I miss something in the previous titles. It is a fair read but gee the author has many many loose ends to tie up before the end of this mini series. We shall see ????

I read this in 2 days only because I was on a plane .It's not a bad AT book, it 's just not a good AT book. It's run of the mill . There's not as much action as other GH Frost books ,but that's not why this was a so so read. The story seems to gloss over the characters , never really gelling the bad guys or supporting characters. Of the action that WAS there, it was not bad. I like this first part in the book where Lyons gets his weapons repaired, showing what he likes to carry and why. I'd say if you want to read this entry, do it so you can say you read the whole series. 5 out of 10 stars.

"They Came To Kill" has a couple former allies of Able Team showing up for adventure as well as plenty of new friends and foes. The plot is OK but the story never really seemed to gel. Perhaps there were just too many players. It doesn't help that the book is feels unfinished with loose ends waiting to be wrapped up. There is no action until the end of chapter 7 and Able Team doesn't get into any fights until Chapter 8 (and then it's without Gadgets.) Able doesn't even show up in the book until Chapter 5 when Lyons goes to get his weapons worked on. For an Able Team book there sure isn't much of Able Team for the first 50 pages and Gadgets virtually disappears for the next 40 pages also. There are two small action scenes in the first half of the book. Then things get quiet for about 40 pages until Able gets into another small firefight. The final battle takes out lots of iranian revolutionary guard assholes and a black seperatist radical that was thrown into the mix for no discernable reason. This one just didn't work. There were some good bits but they were lost in a whole lot of empty. It would have been more enjoyable if some of the action and story time devoted to Powell had been given to Gadgets or the rest of Able Team instead. My favorite thing about this book is a line delivered by Lyons: "Nine millimeter was designed for killing Europeans. For dangerous people, you need a .45." That line is almost enough to get this book a sixth star.

This is more of the great stuff that made this series worth reading. A good one to grab if you're lookin for old Able Team books.

A pretty good book. My favorite scene was the dog carrying a human arm in his teeth. Jeez!!!
