Lethal Diversion

A fantastic entry into the series. The story is intense and fast paced. I enjoyed Bolan's interactions with the dumb cop who's too proud to take orders from him. The side characters are excellent and likeable and the action is good. It's everything you want and need from an Executioner novel.

Good book! The negatives for me were some of the dialogue between the villains, I can't imagine anyone speaking like that ever, also Bolan kind of bumbles around quite a bit. Other than that, I really enjoyed it. Villain was interesting, the diversion (I get it now!) was great. It's not a straightforward seek and destroy work your way up the food chain Bolan, very good!

This is the first novel that I have read by this author, and boy, did I enjoy it. An exciting and fast moving story set in Detroit that takes place over approximately 12 hours. I loved the main characters, especially Allison Hart and Denny Seles. I was disappointed that there was little time for mourning the death of Hart at the end. The villains were resonably fleshed out, the main players were not the usual cardboard cutout ragheads. The location was excellently described, and I too feel that the author has lived there. The street scenes where Detroit is being torn apart by riots is especially realistic. If there is a flaw then it is a tiny one. It seems Brognola was frequently confused with Kurtzman as we have several situations where Brognola 'works his magic of the Stony Man databases'. I will certainly be reading more of this author's work.

I very much enjoyed this book. It's a well -crafted story which doesn't pad its page count with meaningless, redundant action sequences. The plot moves along at a brisk pace. If I have any criticism, it is that we, the readers, know what's going on behind the scenes well before anyone else does, and while that can be quite suspenseful in the hands of a Hitchcock, it doesn't quite work that well here. But that's a very minor complaint, especially since I can't think of a way things could have been presented that would've worked better. Certainly, making the twist a sudden revelation at the end wouldn't have worked well here. All told, I highly recommend this book, and look forward to reading more of this author's work in the future.

Finally, the first solid new-release Executioner in some time. I really like Russell Davis' writing...quickly becoming my favorite for the current writers. I absolutely enjoyed this story from cover to cover. After weapons grade uranium is found in Detroit, Bolan is re-tasked to get involved. This book had it all -- great storyline, well-developed supporting characters, good antagonizing enemies, and well-written action scenes. Bolan begins his assistance in a somewhat passive role, taking some direction from the local PD lead -- Denny Seles. After getting sent on one false lead after another, and then identifying a "leak" in the PD, Bolan takes charge and gets results...Executioner style. The supporting characters are well-developed and used extremely well. Seles and Allison are both used enough to be integral to the story. This doesn't always happen to supporting characters in the current Executioners. Not to mention the other characters -- Chief, IMAM, cocky Washington bureaucrat, etc. Many enjoyable characters. Similarly, there are two key adversaries that the author hangs the story line on, and he does so quite well. Great story...believable plot...well-written. This is a must read.
