Final Resort

Pretty disappointing read here where once again the author just goes through the motions with his writing and has produced a title where there is nothing new, nothing of note, poor characters introduced and a plot/storyline to forget. Truly the female sidekick character here is laughable as is the Big Guy's nonchalance towards her. Many times when reading this one I stopped and thought to myself gee that doesn't sound like the Big Guy but then looked at who the author was and well what would I know he has written or rewritten so many titles in these combined series. I couldn't get into this one at all and found it a tedious read from start to finish. Certainly not one to recommend here from me up to you.

I can't say this is Newton's worst book...it was a decent time-passer. But, I had some issues with it. It should have been a SuperBolan. Too many characters and situations. It all could have been expanded. And the ultimate act of slaughter (rivaling 9/11) happens, then we are introduced to the next hostage situation, and it's almost forgotten. The scenes of Bolan and Santos infiltrating the Cuban resort were written well, and it would have been interesting if the hostages breaking for freedom would have been touched on more. Just not enough time to cram all this into a 186 page book.

Camp X-Ray at Gitmo is the symbol of America in the post-9/11 world. When captives are freed by a daring raid, they launch a series of suicide missions reminiscent to the 9/11 attacks. Mike Newton utilizes effective use of the shorter form novel. Short, bloody and violent, this book details Bolan’s efforts to stop them. There are a couple of plot holes, but this author has a rock-solid hold on the characterizations. There is more suspense than body count. This entry does prove that tension, action and adventure does not have to be heavily populated with terrorist-targets. Favorite Quote (Page 21): “`All this is public knowledge. Glory to the Internet!’” Just one of the surprisingly numerous one-liners found here.

This was a below average book, I gave it an extra star for the kick ass cover, I gotta get one of those sleeveless shirts and a cool leather wrist band ! The premise was OK, terrorists are freed from Gitmo to commit suicide attacks in and around Cuba. There were some interesting insights into the terrorists thoughts, but my main complaint is if (SPOILER!) if the Cubans know that these dudes are gonna waste all the hostages and the demands are all for nothing, why not just bust on in and start kicking ass? Again, I was not overly thrilled.

this one seemed very slow and boring. there wasnt a whole lot of action. you could count the number of bad guys bolan killed with your fingers. the action sequences are disappointing and are far in between. also terrorists are overused bad guys that im getting tired of. by the end of the book i didn't care anymore. i just wanted it to be over so i could go on to a more exciting book.
