Ambush Force

Liked the plot with this one where the Big Guy goes undercover to take down the bad guys. Some good characters introduced which where enjoyable and the ending section was good. Unfortunately there was too much in the middle where basically little happens either action wise or plot wise and there is nothing which hasn't been done before indeed including this author. Ended up thinking it was an okay read up to you.

I was close to giving this one a 7 star rating, but it was definitely a solid 6, which for me translates to "good". Being an undercover role, action a lot of times is usually not as abundant, but the story was gripping, and Bolan's sidekick, Dirk, was one of the better ones in a while. The few big shootouts there were didn't seem to have the punch of some of the writer's other books, but what elevated this one was the cat-and-mouse game Bolan and a female ally had to engage in later on, evading helicopter assaults, shock troops and a master sniper. It turned out to be a very enjoyable book, with quite a few memorable characters.

I would give this one a 7.5, but that isn't an option. This is only my second executioner novel. I thought it was rather good, but not as good as the first one I read- Blood Toll. This had a lot of action and was pretty intense, but someting about it that I can't point out just didn't impress me as much as the other I read.

Awesome. The author has the Bolan undercover thing down cold here. (He infiltrates a Blackwater-type outfit in Afghanistan in this one). Nobody in the current writing stable does it better. Every time he cranks one of these novels out, he improves his formula. For most of the novel, I expected Bolan’s cover was going to blown and a firefight was about to erupt. Tension with a capital T. The main protagonist is a formidable one, breaking new ground, a hotheaded alpha male sniper. Colorful allies that you care if they live or die. Throw in a female love interest and a rogue’s gallery of villainy, and you have “Ambush Force.” Aside from the military super-macho-USA#1-patriotism, and I give a direct quote to one example: “`If the US Army Rangers are after you, you’d better have a weapon of mass destruction, because that’s the only way you’re going to stop them.’” (p.25). And this quote is coming from no less than Bolan himself. There are other comments that seem strangely out of place in this series. And the last assault in-country was one too many, with the ending scene just right. I highly recommend this one.
