Super#3: The Barrabas Blitz

Rich Rainey, who later went on to write some Executioner novels, gets his first crack at the SOBs line. This is a monstrosity of story, the third of only five supersized SOBs books. The first two were much better than this, but by no means do we have a bad book here. Scandinavia is the setting for this adventure, with various locations in Norway being the lion's share of the story. The main villains here are... Vikings! United under a crazy leader bent on ruling a united Norway-Sweden- Denmark. OK, so an interesting idea here, but how does it work out? Well all I can say is I think it could have been better, but overall we do have an engrossing tale unfold, with a large cast of characters, and a good balance of action to go with plot development. O'Toole had a good undercover role he had to play by himself, and Hatton as well, although her end of it was not focused on very much. More focus was on the factions of the Vikings as they went about their plans for chemical warfare, the frightening part of the plot, and later on Russian Spetsnaz get involved to add more to the mix. The SOBs really never got center stage for much of the story, but there were enough good scenes put in to not let things hanging for too long. The ending confrontation between Barrabas and Koll wasn't what I hoped it would be but otherwise I was entertained enough to enjoy the book.

The start is very good in fact where we see the bad guys Vikings descendants mostly invade a Norwegian chemical factory steal what they want kill everybody present and nick off to parts unknown. Then well the SOB's are sent to Norway to assist the local forces. Why ? Not sure maybe the locals are too incompetent to catch the Bad guys themselves. Hatton and the Irishman are sent undercover to infiltrate the Bad guys groups and are promptly forgotten until the near ending of this 350 page masterpiece. Lots and lots of stuff which will keep you rivetted and turning the pages as you get closer to the end like .... umm Oh and of course I have to mention ...... and also ..... but I just can't manage to recall anything noteworthy to type here. Well the title does finish :-) and you come to the end of it and think to yourself ......? If I killed off some brain cells reading this can I sue the publishers? I would respectfully suggest you can find a bucket load of fine titles to read in this series which are normal size books as well.
