Pacific Payload

One of my favorite covers in the series, however the story within is a little on the mediocre side. A new writer steps in, bringing a different voice to the series. There are some good moments in here but overall I thought this book was a letdown. The SOBs are tasked with investigating an island in the Pacific suspected of being used for nefarious purposes. A heavy dose of Billy Two's hawk spirit antics are included, and some decent sleuthing by Nanos, Lee, and Bishop. The action was light, and the author had a weird way of handling dialogue. Too often it was confusing as to which person was speaking, and much of the time one side did almost all the talking. The plot was mildly interesting, but the story was just not written in a compelling manner. Billy's crazy action added some spice to what was otherwise fairly bland action to close out the adventure. I would say this is the weakest book in the series, and while not really bad, it kind of felt like just treading water and not really hitting any home runs. If you are picky about what you want to read in the series, I suggest giving this one a miss.

Very disappointing effort from a first time author in the series here. A secluded island has been taken over by European interests who wish to launch a missile into space and clean up a few US and Soviet satellites giving them the balance of power in space. Umm okay that's the plot. Lots and lots of absolutely nothing happens as the title plods along, no action scenes Billy 2 one of my favourite characters in this series is off away with the gods and priests and it went on for FAR TOO long, the Doc and Bishop are tied up with a tin pot General and a French Rocket designer which also went for FAR TOO long. The rest of the Team rent and base themselves on an island of an actor who happens to arrive just before the final scenes of the attack on the island. Why? Your guess is as good as mine but I am thinking page filler. Nothing to recommend here with this title.

Had a decent opening with people on a pleasure cruise getting the nightmare of a lifetime, but this one never took off, and Billy Two was quite "off" through the rest of the book. Good cover, too, but not enough to save it.
