Time to Kill

This should have been called War Everlasting as the phrase is used about 20 times in the first few chapters. As it is Time to Kill is used once but could equally be called Time to Die of Boredom. The story takes place over 3 days I think, but it is hard to tell as it took me well over a week to work my way thru it. It is just so slow. And it isn't that that there are not many action scenes as I could live with that as long as there was a strong story but there isn't. It is just chapter upon chapter of musings. Bolan muses for a chapter. Then Rachel muses for the next chapter, then MacAllister muses for a chapter and so it goes on and on. I agree with the other reviewers about the giant and the mask. Why? And why wasn't this giant given a back story? Was he Scottish? Russian? Adopted? MacAllister's inbred cousin? Who knows. At least the giant wasn't musing for a chapter so I guess that's something. Some small highlights: The Double 0 Section is mentioned and the 2 MI5 agents use the same guns as James Bond in his various adventures. This gave the story an extra star. And the author did seem to know his way around Scotland which made things a bit more interesting.

I liked this one. Some slow parts for sure! I liked the scenes of Bolan driving around taking in the local sights. Strange but I liked it. A guy wearing a latex mask to "scare" away people when all he does is kill them anyways makes no sense, but that's okay. I liked the local who's sold his soul to the bad guys that was interesting. Good read, but a little slow at times.

Not one on of my favorites to say the least. Overall, the story seemed disjointed. Not much else to say about it. There were some interesting villains, but this "giant" seemed out of character for a Bolan book. The ending within the castle was interesting.

This one is pretty ordinary folks let me tell you from the start. A title where basically nothing happens until the last few pages and the reader is constantly asking himself umm when is something actually going to happen here? The Big Guy is taking time off on another of his projects to look into the strange going on's which possibly point to Soviet arms being sent to Ireland. Investigating he comes across a castle where most of the illegal shipments seem to be heading for. The castle seems to be protected by a giant monster who is killing anyone who comes close? Why? He Kills everyone who enters so why the mask? Good stuff when one of his victims throws up into the mask causing him to remove it rather quickly ;-) The ending section is good but wow you have a lot of fodder to plow your way through to get to it. One for the readers in order only I reckon not one to recommend for your reading.

This wasn't a bad novel but it wasn't one of the better Executioner's either. The mood set off by this novel was more like that of a thriller/suspense novel than an action adventure book. I think the story could have done with out the large giant wearing the latex mask to keep people away from the castle. They also spent to much time telling the story from perspectives other than Bolans. During those times a full page or more would contain to much info or what the character was thinking. But the gun fight at the end was very entertaining. Once again I just wish that they would have done more of the book from Mack Bolan's point of view and the end could have been better.

OMG this book should have been Time To Sleep. God was this a dull novel. The only real action wasn't until the last 40 pages. The castle scene with Mack, RAchel and Harry in 3 different locations all fighting to survive and destroy was the b est part of the novel. Yes there was some action before but it was very short scenes. The other first 210 seemed at times like a British mystery novel. Rachel and Harry seemed more appropriate for an Elizabeth George novel then a Mack book. BTW George is a very good writer granted dry at times. Yes it was interesting about how the two teenagers in love were killed in the castle and seeing her father grieving but good god an entire chapter about him driving to the castle and running. The "monster" at the castle. Why was there a monster? It was just a soviet killer in a suit. If trespassers were killed at the castle why couldn't it have been guards doing the killing. Its not like the monster was used to scare people away. It was to kill them to make sure there were no witnesses. Very dumb idea. Fit for Scooby Doo not a serious novel. I know its nice readng about Mack enjoying the sites and sounds of Scotland but give me a break. Rachel was one dumb British Intelligence agent. "Ohhh lets go look at McAllisters files at his office late at night. I am just a novice trying to prove myself and oops I don't need backup. Oh lets not tell anyone like Mack." The torture scene was rather graphic. Kind of surprising GE let in a rather sexually graphic torture scene. A real stinker of a novel. Avoid.

I think this is one of Newtons better ones. It's been years since i read this but if I remember right, this one has a dream sequence in it. unless that was another Newton book. Anyway I remember thinkin Newton would make a great horror/suspense writer if he wasn't writing Bolans. I would certainly buy them if he did.

A so-so entry that was a decent read.
