Incident at Plei Sol

A fact-finding mission led by U.S. Army Special Forces Captain Mack Gerber is dispatched to the tiny hamlet of Plei Soi to determine the future of Camp A-337. The Americans find the village completely deserted with most of the inhabitants killed. At nightfall comes a blistering rocket and mortar attack that pins down the Special Forces team. They repel the initial assault, but it quickly becomes obvious they are outgunned with no hope of air support. Distress calls are futile because heavy rains have grounded the air force and gunships. A Mike Force convoy deployed to assist the stranded SF team is ambushed before it reaches the camp. The situation worsens at dawn when the Vietcong and NVA launch a threepronged attack on Camp A-337.

The plot in this book was again pretty simple, but a much more gripping novel than the last one. Gerber and Fetterman are back as the main characters, this time sent to check out the area around camp A337 for hostiles. Things get crazy as the camp gets overrun by the NVA and VC. One of the better battle scenes in the series, and it took up a major portion of the book, making this a very action oriented novel. Santini also plays a role in this story, I enjoyed his scenes, he reminds me of another Fetterman type. As is with a few recent titles, there seems to be a hint that a major attack is being set up, and seeing that the next book is called TET, I think that is what the author is leading to. Overall, this is a good book in the series, not as good as the earliest books, but another solid title worth the read.
