Black Dice

The cover is awesome, it really is. Bolan in a downpour with lightening flashing in the background. It is really really good.Four stars for that alone. And kudos to the author for predicting the reunification of Germany four years in advance. But kudos is all he gets because......the rest was just awful. The entire story sucked. We are introduced to various KGB teams, kill crazy CIA agents ("Langley has authorized us to kill everything"), mercenaries, red neck militias, lunatics and the McGuffin double agents. There are no defining characteristics between any of the groups, all we get are chapters and chapters that are basically the following: WAR!WAR!WAR!WAR!HATE!HATE!HATE!HATE!HATE!HATE!HATE! It goes on and on and on. I skipped pages of it. I almost gave up with the so called story but stuck with it. Seriously, you can give this one a miss. Get it only for the cover. But after this I may give Bolan a rest for a while. It was that bad.

Wow. C.I.A, KGB, white Racist Bikers and Crazies from an insane Asylum. For a minute there i thought Bigfoot was going to make an appearance. There was just too much crammed into this book. The best part of this book was the title and cover. The Cover kicks Ass. 6 stars for this book

Maybe too many groups introduced for a start which makes it hard to remember who is who as you progress through the title. The overall plot bringing the KGB killers and the CIA mercenaries to remote Alaska with traitors on both sides in to where they are going to wipe each other out left a little to be desired as did the Long Knives group who were just laughable however the lunatics released from the clinic and drugged up were excellent and I agree with previous reviewers that more time should have been spent on that group. Jack is along for the ride here which is always good and he takes his customary beating from the Bad Guys which tends to be done too many times but it was pretty good reading. The final section where the lunatics arrive in the remote town and slaughter everything that moves is way over the top but again if that is your thing and rivers of blood and hacked body parts stacking up turns you on this title will deliver. Could have been better but an okay read in the series up to you.

Black Dice was the frist Executioner book that I read. I enjoyed the book very much. I liked the plot and the Characters that were in the book. I also liked how there were five different sides th the war in Alaska. I liked all the action in the book, very good fight scenes. The only thing that i did not like is how all the CIA an KGB were killed. I thought it might have been cool for Blake to meet Bolan. Also for Freeman and the Long Knifes to have a final show down with Bolan. But for the most part I liked it, a very good book with a very good plot, and very strong characters.

Just an average entry. I was annoyed with some of it ... for example, Bolan's gonna use Big Thunder and Little Lightning to battle the Killteam thats on a Killhunt. Are you kidding? Everyone other than Bolan is a complete idiot in this book. But had some good action throughout ! Peace

This was probably the only Mack Bolan book that I did not enjoy reading. For one thing the author of this particular installment to the executioner series gets many of his facts incorrect. For example he often says that the M16 uses 7.62mm amunition while anyone who knows anything about firearms knows that it fire a 5.56mm projectile. Also, he has bolan in during a fire fight use an M16 in one hand and the 44 auto mag in the other which is not only impracticle but would not be a technique used by a seasoned warrior such as Mack Bolan. If there is one book in the Executioner series you don't read, let it be this one.

Seriously lame and boring book from start to finish as it was way too complex book with way too many long dialogs that really didn't add anything to the story There was absolutely no intelligence behind the book, no suspense, no mystery and no plot and so many questions kept popping up throughout the book. Questions like; Why torture the defecting persons? Why exchanging the defectors instead of trying to get more information out of them? Why was Bolan on this case? Was he sent of behalf of Brognola? Why did Bolan want to execute the American traitors instead of interrogating them? Was they to be executed on Bolan's initiative or on orders from Brognola? Why were the Long Nives gang of misguided "warriors" in the book at all? Too many questions after a book not worth reading at all haunting ones mind……………… The long final battle on the mountain site was too long, too complex and too dull to give any rise to the book at all. So the end result…………stay way from this book. However, one thing made the book interesting and that was the asylum plot and that one should have been used in a different book as a main plot and not a sub plot but still, this was the only good thing about this book. Now, the asylum plot was a very interesting twist and fresh one but still, not enough to make the book interesting. As always, what a shame!! (Iceland - 2007)

Gotta agree with Monsta on this one - way too complex. Lets see fighting in Alaska - A US mercenary group hired by the CIA, Long Knives, drugged out criminals, a faction of Russians subdivided into 3 parts ie the head of the Alaska team, the assassin following Mack, the head's first officer freeing the criminals. Plus Mack and Jack. I would have left out the Long Knives this group yes added some comic relief but they took away overall from the novel and they seemed more appropriate for the Destroyer series. I wish instead of focusing on the Long Knives (as a subplot) they should have had a character or characters of the insane asylum be the focus instead. Who were these criminals? Lets face it the Long Knives was run by a short man with a Napoleanic complex - kind of blah. Still if the story just focused on the Russians, mercs and on the traitors it would have been more smooth. Why did the American traitors defect? A few scenes showing what went on in their mind would have been welcome. I am not sure why traitors would be tortured by the countries they are defecting to. The cuting off the fingers of the two American traitors didn't make sense. Lets see traitors volunteer for money, women etc to give info to the enemy. Why torture them when they volunteer info? Something was odd about this. Not taking points off though. A slightly above average novel.

A great action packed book, I would rate it higher, but for one problem. The battle scene on the mountainside was just too long, too complex, and too unbelievable for my taste. It seemed like there was a bad guy generator spitting out endless gun toting bad guys for Bolan to shoot, it was the only lame part of the book. Still, this book is worth getting, and is one of the writers better earlier books.

An excellent book with a lot of surprises.

This one was good, real good. I highly recommend it.

A great, action-packed book. It left me breathless.
